WASHINGTON, October 27, 2004 — The Center for Public Integrity collected lists of legislative candidates for 2004 from state elections agencies in the 44 states holding elections. (Alabama, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey and Virginia do not have legislative races this year. New Jersey is, however, holding a special election.) Researchers then identified incumbent legislators running for reelection on Nov. 2, 2004.
