Amerada Hess and its subsidiaries explore for, produce, purchase, transport and sell crude oil and natural gas. These exploration and production activities take place in the U.S., U.K., Norway, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Gabon, Indonesia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Malaysia and other countries. As of Dec. 31, 2003, the company owned 50 percent of a refinery joint venture in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and another refining facility, terminals and retail gasoline stations located on the East Coast of the U.S. On Dec. 31, 2003, the company had 646 million barrels of proven crude oil and natural gas liquids reserves and proven natural gas reserves of 2. 33 trillion cubic feet.
